First American —the largest title insurer in the nation, has been accused of compromising customers’ private information.
Consumers allege that many of the documents were repeatedly accessed because the First American system allegedly made it incredibly easy for the public to access private information by failing to implement even rudimentary security measures. Despite explicitly promising customers robust data security as part of the high cost of title services, the First American system allowed anyone to access the sensitive files of millions of customers.
