The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) was created in 1991 to limit telemarketing by restricting the use of automatic dialing systems and artificial or prerecorded voice messages. Under this Act, it is unlawful to use automated telephone equipment “to make any call to any telephone number assigned to a cellular telephone service.” Consumers allege that many companies are still practicing this business tactic.
