Hyundai and Kia May Be Selling Defective Vehicles To Consumers

Hyundai and Kia may be continuing to sell vehicles with engine defects.

Between 2015 and 2017, Hyundai Motor America and Kia Motors America, Inc., recalled 1.5 million vehicles with Theta II engines in North America.  The vehicles were recalled because of a knocking noise produced by the engine, a reduction in engine power, and engine stalling.  Consumers allege that the defective Theta II engines have a fuel injection system that allows contaminants to enter the engines’ oil supply.  That oil contamination ultimately causes engine failure. The vehicles affected are as follows:

–          2013 – 2014 Hyundai Sonata sedans

–          Santa Fe Sport crossovers

–          2011 – 2014 Kia Optima sedans

–          2012 – 2014 Sorento’s SUV

–          2011 – 2013 Sportage crossovers

If you or anyone you know purchased or leased a Hyundai or Kia vehicle with a Theta II engine, please contact Finkelstein Thompson LLP. You can reach us at contact@finkelsteinthompson.com or call us toll-free at 1-844-280-5009.
